Latvia: Daugavpils University (Daugavpils Universitāte)

Daugavpils University is a state university providing training for professional and academic specialists and organizes scientific research in the humanities as well as the social, educational and natural sciences. There are five faculties (Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Humanities, Education and Management, Music and Art, Social Sciences) that implement over 50 study programmes at bachelors, masters and doctoral level.

Daugavpils University has 509 employees. In the project direct involvement will be by 3 people.

Daugavpils University has around 30 years experience implementing Latvian language (native or 2nd language) study programs at university level.

Daugavpils University Latvian Language department has been involved in several local, national and transnational level projects over the past 15 years. The last projects in which the Latvian Language department was involved were a linguistic study of the border areas of Latvia (project supported by Daugavpils University internal grant), and an analysis of the multicultural situation in Latgale, Eastern Latvia (national program supported by Ministry of Education and Science). Dagavpils University is a partner in the National Agency for Latvian Language Training as well as national and transnational projects designed to exchange and develop a modern methodology for language studies. Daugavpils University has also participated in a number of TEMPUS projects that were related to research on language training methods.
